Mesodyne to Develop Next-Generation Power Solutions for USSOCOM

SOMERVILLE, Mass. – May 15, 2026 – Mesodyne today announced it has been awarded a $4.25 million contract to develop a Tactical Expeditionary Silent Power Generator prototype project for the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). This strategic effort directly supports the Special Operations Force Acquisition Technology and Logistics (SOF AT&L), Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate.

Over the period of performance, Mesodyne will focus on the development, testing, systems integration, and evaluation of its LightCell prototype. The overarching objective is to deliver expeditionary power generation systems specifically tailored to meet USSOCOM’s rigorous requirements for mobility and signature management.

Mesodyne will leverage its advanced thermophotovoltaic-based power generation technology - the LightCell - to create portable, scalable, and reliable energy solutions. The LightCell is designed to provide Special Operations Forces (SOF) with compact, quiet, multi-fuel power solutions boasting increased energy density and reduced acoustic and thermal emissions compared to current systems. Ultimately, this advanced power generation capability aims to ensure SOF mission survivability, operational flexibility, and enhanced sustainability in austere environments.
