Mechanical engineer for thermofluids design and prototyping at an energy startup
We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our expanding team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in transitioning the LightCell technology to its first commercial product and beyond.
Responsibilities:
- Own the design, fabrication, integration, testing, and optimization of components and subsystems of the LightCell: heat exchangers, vacuum packages, cooling systems, fuel injectors, fuel/air mixers, combustors, etc.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to build prototypes for deployment in government and commercial pilot projects.
- Transitioning from prototypes to robust, scalable, and manufacturable designs.
Qualifications and skills:
- BS or MS/MEng in mechanical engineering, or other engineering field with strong mechanical engineering skills, is required.
- Demonstrated ability to build physical prototypes is required. Strong hands-on skills working with intricate mechanical assemblies are required. Prior mill and lathe experience is highly desired.
- An intuitive and theoretical understanding of heat transfer and fluids is required.
- Experience creating complex mechanical systems is required: ideation, CAD, design for manufacturing, integration, testing, etc. Prior industry experience is desired but not required: exceptional extracurricular project, personal projects, and undergraduate research projects will meet this requirement.
- Eagerness to learn new skills on the job is required: vacuum technology, combustion engineering, optical and optomechanical systems, high temperature materials, welding/brazing technology, and other fields relevant to the LightCell.
